Free Access: Expo Preview: Life lessons help Kurt Mueller understand client’s needs

The quote, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” has been attributed to many people over the years, from President Theodore Roosevelt to successful author and business coach, John Maxwell. It could easily describe Kurt Mueller.

The designations he’s earned for financial planning show he knows his business and he’s had a lifetime of lessons that have shaped how he cares.

Early on, Mueller lived abroad. His dad was in the Peace Corps in American Samoa and later served as president of a hospital in Saudi Arabia.

“Those experiences helped me understand different cultures and to see and appreciate the difference in being poor and being fortunate,” Mueller, CFP®, CPWA®, ChFC®, CLU®, MS, explained.

When he attended The Citadel, it was another life experience learned, this time in teamwork and structure. All have translated well into his current position with Apollon Wealth Management, 3633 Wheeler Road, Suite 230, Augusta.

“To help families and business owners become financially secure, I have to listen to understand the mental and emotional sides of investing and growing finances, then take that information and give good advice,” he said.

Mueller said sometimes headlines create investor angst, but he advises clients not to chase returns to make up losses. He also shared one of his favorite quotes from Warren Buffet: “If you aren’t willing to hold a stock for 10 years, don’t hold it for 10 minutes.”

He is more comfortable with the term “financial planner” as opposed to “wealth manager” but the bottom line is, no matter how many zeros you have attached after the 1 in your account, what you get is planning for investments, insurance, estate, taxes, retirement and education for your kids.

For Mueller, investment is a two-way street. After all, he’s originally from Missouri, the “Show Me” state.

“Talk is cheap,” he said. “Ultimately, it’s about getting your hands dirty, about hard work, and leading by example. The more I learn, giving back is one of the greatest feelings we can have as human beings.”

Mueller helps clients invest and grow their finances.

Mueller and his wife, Megan, have two young boys; thus, he has focused on youth development and volunteers his time mentoring at Belvedere & Mossy Creek Elementary School in North Augusta. He also coaches his oldest son’s YMCA teams including soccer, tee-ball, and basketball.

His “giving back” doesn’t stop there.

He created the North Augusta Professionals networking group in May 2016 to redefine the way networking is done in the CSRA. In other leadership volunteer positions, Mueller has served as a board member for the United Way of Aiken County and the Midland Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, as Executive Chair for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk, and as the Executive Chair of the American Heart Association Heart Walk.

Kurt Mueller understands your goals represent more than financial and investment returns; it’s about living the life you’ve earned. He is contributing to that on many levels.

You can meet and discuss your financial future with him at the ABD Business Expo and perhaps he can help you put your investment future in focus and make hay while the sun shines. He will be speaking at the Expo on the topic, “The U.S. Economy: Where are we now?”
