History Meets the Present at New Shop

The CSRA is somewhat of an antique picker’s paradise and Edgefield, South Carolina has a new option for finding old treasures. The Magnolia Barn opened earlier this month in the original Hartley Barn built in 1920.

For owner Sheree Tuttle, finding the location at 817 Buncombe Street, and opening the shop fulfilled a dream. It’s more than just about selling antiques.

“The Magnolia Barn brings to life my three favorite things. I love antiques but I had a 20-year medical career, so I’m also offering a line of health supplements and some delicious organic food choices. I will also grow and sell herbs and plants because I love gardening,” Tuttle explained.

It’s an eclectic mix that resonates with everyone who has visited her shop. Other antique store operators in town have been welcoming and gracious enough to send potential customers her way.

“I’m from Pennsylvania and lived in Bluffton, SC for 10 years but I love Edgefield. This business is not about competition, but support and I’m getting that and I’m grateful.”

The first settlement in Edgefield was in the mid-1700s making for a rich history and the availability of antiques through estate sales. Today the population is a little over 4,000, a place where everyone can know your name and your family. Those welcome arms that benefit Tuttle and The Magnolia Barn may originate from small-town charm.

The Magnolia Barn has also partnered with Heart Pine Homestead Breads and Dry Creek Honey.

“I want this to be a unique experience for Edgefield and the CSRA. Even though I have plans to grow the business, I want to be one-on-one with customers.”

Eventually, The Magnolia Barn will have a chicken coop and offer fresh eggs. Adding a greenhouse to grow fruit trees and plants is also part of their future.

The Magnolia Barn is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm. Holiday hours may affect those times. Follow them on Facebook for the latest updates.
