Homebuilders celebrate strong sales despite many challenges in 2021

Despite facing challenges related to covid, rising prices on materials and workforce shortages, local home builders still recorded a strong year for new home sales. To celebrate, the Builders Association and Sales and Marketing Council of Metro Augusta honored many of these professionals at its 2021 Stellar Awards ceremony on Tuesday, March 8 at the West Lake Country Club.

“Despite all the challenges with supply costs, availability and workforce, we had a phenomenal year in new home sales,” said Tiffany Heitzman, Executive Officer of the Builders Association of Metro Augusta. “All of these winners deserve this recognition for continuing to maneuver challenges in our industry.”

At the ceremony, three awards were presented to local builders. Matt and Mark Ivey with Ivey Homes won the Community Service Award for their “Buy Ivey, Build Community” campaign.

Last year, the company donated a portion of each home sale to local charities and participated in Paceline Ride to raise money for cancer research. Ivey Homes gave more than $95,000 back to the community in 2021.

Mark Ivey also won the Builder Executive of the Year award for not only building homes but also serving on local, state, and national home builders committees since 2007.

The SMC Lifetime Achievement Award went to Mark Herbert, President and owner of Herbert Homes, Inc. in Evans. Herbert has worked in the home-building industry for more than 40 years and has served as President of the Builders Association of Metro Augusta and the Home Builders Association of Georgia.

Mark Herbert was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other awards were presented to top-selling real estate agents from a variety of local firms, including Meybohm, Keller Williams Augusta Partners, and Blanchard & Calhoun Real Estate. The association also presented Member Choice Awards to CSRA subcontractors and suppliers, such as Maner Builders Supply, Looper Cabinet Company, and Rob Zapata’s Electric Inc.

Founded in 1956, the Home Builders Association is a nonprofit with about 300 members. For more information, visit homebuildersaugusta.org.
