Isaac White has always dreamed of opening his own barbershop, and over the weekend, that dream finally came true.
White, owner of Augusta’s Barber Lounge located off Columbia Road at 103 Maple Drive, Suite 11 next door to Team Fit Personal Training in Martinez, will celebrate his business’s grand opening on Saturday, May 6 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event will include food provided by 3Ts Farms, face painting, and giveaways, such as gift cards and free haircuts.
He held the soft opening on Saturday and had about 18 customers throughout the day.
White, who has been a barber for about three years, completed his training in Arizona. Before that, he did various jobs in the swimming pool industry, including chemical sales and maintenance, but he never enjoyed those jobs.
When the pandemic began in March 2020, White, who’s married to a nurse, was forced to leave his job to stay home with their children.
“I had a chance to reflect and put things in perspective,” he said. “Ultimately, I decided to pursue my dream and put myself through barber school.”
The biggest challenges White faced in preparing to open Augusta’s Barber Lounge were finding the right barbers and marketing the business.
“The people you put in place make or break your business,” he said.
Besides the grand opening, White plans to host other community events. He wants to make his barbershop a place parents and their kids want to visit and is excited about building relationships with area residents. And White loves what he does.
“Passion is what drove me to the barbering industry,” he said.
