Local businesses help make Christmas merrier for others

Chandler Brewer understands the sacrifices military service members make to protect our freedom, which is why the local business owner decided to give back to them this Christmas season.

Last month, Brewer, owner of Elevate Auto Lab, along with Eva Cotto with Riley’s Paint + Body in Martinez, donated 27 bikes to the Fort Gordon Christmas House, a nonprofit that helps to provide toys for children in military families. He said the bikes cost $75 to $100 each.

“They have a bike drive leading up to the first week of December, and they had a specific need for bikes for children ages 11 to 12,” Brewer said.

He said he established Elevate as a faith-based company.

“We’re always trying to make an impact when we can,” Brewer said.

But they’re not the only businesses that support the local community for the holidays. Each year, the Hawk Law Group helps five local families buy Christmas gifts or cover other expenses through its annual Hawk Group Helps initiative.

SRP Federal Credit Union also supports local charities, such as The Salvation Army. Last year, the company filled 66 stockings for the Stuff a Stocking campaign and donated 39 children’s gifts to the organization’s Angel Tree program.

Last year, the Fort Gordon Christmas House provided toys for about 370 children, according to its website. For Brewer, giving back is a calling from God.

“Giving back to them (military families) and making Christmas easier felt like something we were called to do,” he said.
