Local companies develop initiatives to support nonprofits

KAMO Facility Solutions & Supplies is celebrating its 75th anniversary by giving back to the local community. Last year, the company developed its KAMO Gives initiative, but it has supported CSRA non-profit organizations for many years, according to Allie Bentley.

Bentley, KAMO’s Marketing Director, said the business, which sells and services janitorial equipment, has partnered with many organizations, such as the United Way of the CSRA and Paceline, a nonprofit that hosts an annual bike ride to raise funds for Augusta University’s Georgia Cancer Center.

In 2021, KAMO’s staff participated in the ride and raised more than $24,000. She said they don’t have a designated amount they plan to give each year.

“We try to give as much as we can,” Bentley said. “We just want to be better than we were the year before.”

In December, the company supported the American Red Cross’s relief efforts for Kentucky residents affected by deadly tornadoes. KAMO partnered with the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center to deliver food and other supplies to those residents.

She said the business also supports Project Refresh Inc., an organization that provides mobile showers for homeless people throughout the CSRA.

“We encourage nonprofits to reach out and let us know how we can help,” Bentley said.

Like KAMO, Busby’s Heating and Air gives back to the community regularly through The Busby’s Cares Community Contribution initiative, which donates money to a local nonprofit each month. Last week, the company presented a $2,000 check to SafeHomes Domestic Violence Center.

Rick Busby presented a check to Jennifer Frantom and Aimee Hall of SafeHomes.

Bank of America Augusta-Aiken has also supported numerous organizations, including Golden Harvest Food Bank, the Greater Augusta Black Chamber of Commerce, and Christ Community Health.
Last year, the bank donated $100,000 to Augusta Technical College to fund short-term training programs.

In April, Bank of America sponsored the inaugural Play it Forward Golf Clinic at First Tee-Augusta. The event allowed 35 kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta to learn golf techniques and life lessons from players in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur tournament.

The company also provides paid internships and leadership training to high school students across the country through its Bank of America Student Leaders program. This year, two seniors from A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School were selected to participate in the program.
