Local Harley-Davidson to launch much larger Augusta dealership

About a week ago, Timms Harley-Davidson of Augusta Inc. held a ceremony to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new, much larger dealership in Augusta.

The 40,000-square-foot facility will be located at 129 Mason McKnight Jr. Parkway near Gander RV, CarMax, and Northern Tool + Equipment. Construction is expected to be complete by December 2023, according to the business’s Marketing Manager, Hannah Barrs. Barrs said the current location at 4200 Belair Frontage Road is 31,000 square feet.

“It’s incredibly modern with glass windows from floor to ceiling,” she said. “It’s a state-of-the-art facility.”

It will also feature the first Harley-Davidson Rider’s Academy in this area. The Academy will provide a 25-hour training course that will allow riders to get their motorcycle license.

“The new dealership will have its own parking lot for the riding course,” Barrs said. “It ensures a safe environment for everyone to learn how to ride.”

Rocky Timms owns both Timms Harley-Davidson of Augusta and Anderson, S.C., which his grandfather, Charlie Timms, founded in 1948 with a $200 investment. It’s South Carolina’s oldest Harley dealership.

Barrs said Timms is proud to have the opportunity to build the Augusta dealership from the ground up. Architect, Andres Perea is designing the facility, which will be built by ACC Construction.

Barrs said the company rents the current facility, and she isn’t sure what its owner plans to do with it after they relocate to the new dealership.
