Local Mexican restaurant offers free meal for first responders

A local Mexican restaurant wants to show appreciation for law enforcement personnel.

Taqueria El Rey, which has locations in both Martinez and Grovetown, has a special offer for all first responders. Throughout the month of October, they can visit either location and receive a free 10/4 Burrito, which contains a variety of ingredients, including grilled chicken, rice, refried beans, and guacamole. The burrito also comes with chips and a drink, says Ramiro Galvan, the restaurant’s owner and manager. “You have your whole meal,” which normally sells for about $16, Galvan states. He explains this is the fifth year they’ve offered the free meal, but until this year, they only did it for one day: Oct. 4. Galvan says they didn’t get the kind of response they were hoping for, so they decided to make it a month-long offer.

All first responders have to do to receive the free burrito is show their law enforcement credentials. The “When we posted it, people thought it was just for Columbia County,” says Galvan. “It’s for everybody.”
