Local mother-daughter team to brew second coffee shop location

Columbia County residents will soon have a new place to pick up a cup of Joe before heading to work.

The owners of Rooted Coffeehouse, Alison Kocher and Heather Needles plan to open a second location at 380 West Milledgeville Road, near IGA, in Harlem this summer. The original coffee shop is located at 3116 William Few Parkway, Suite 1 in the Market at Riverwood shopping center in Evans.

“We’re excited about having a new community to reach,” said Needles, Kocher’s mother. “It’s a small town, so we’re excited about that.”

The Evans shop is in a bustling community and generally stays busy throughout the day.

She said a customer was leasing the building in Harlem and told her about it. The smaller facility, which used to be occupied by Gitti’s Used Cars of Harlem, turned out to be exactly what they needed.

“We’ve been looking for a second location for over a year,” Kocher said.

They said the new location will focus primarily on drive-thru and takeout business. Rooted serves a variety of coffees and food items, such as breakfast sandwiches and oatmeal.
