Local Restaurateur Hosts Donation Drive

This month, not only can you eat at Fat Man’s Café, but you can also drop off donations. The Salvation Army of Augusta has partnered with the restaurant for its January Donation Drive, aimed at collecting cleaning products to support The Center of Hope.

Throughout January, community members can drop off cleaning products such as laundry detergent, sanitizing sprays, wipes, dish detergent, and paper towels at Fat Man’s Cafe (1450 Greene Street) or any Salvation Army location, including The Center of Hope, The Kroc Center, and Family Stores in South Augusta, Martinez, North Augusta, and Thomson. For added convenience, donors can also shop directly from The Salvation Army’s Amazon Wishlist and have items shipped to The Center of Hope.

Brad Usry, owner of Fat Man’s Cafe, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, “We are proud to partner with The Salvation Army of Augusta for this important initiative. Helping our community is at the heart of everything we do, and this is a meaningful way to make a difference.”

Major Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta, expressed his gratitude: “We are so thankful to Fat Man’s Cafe for their generous support and to the community for stepping up to help us with this drive. The cleaning supplies collected will go a long way in helping us keep The Center of Hope clean and welcoming. It’s about providing dignity to our clients by ensuring they feel respected and cared for in their spaces.”

The Center of Hope serves as a crucial resource for individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Augusta. Averaging 80 clients per night and providing approximately 200 meals a day, the facility faces constant demands for cleaning supplies to ensure that shared spaces remain clean and comfortable.
