Local tutoring studio delays opening due to permitting issues

A nationally franchised music lesson studio got a lesson in the way our local government conducts business.

ABD chose not to show a photo of a stop-work order issued by the County on September 23rd, as an inspector’s cellphone number is prominently displayed.

The franchisee of Musicologie failed to obtain permits to begin work on the buildout and had to stop any construction.

ABD received a statement from Columbia County yesterday in part that reads:

“In this case, County staff have worked with the business owner to identify the permitting requirements for the project. Permit applications have since been submitted and are pending review. Work may resume once the appropriate permits are approved and all required inspections can be completed.”

Tom Reed, the Community Manager for Musicologie Riverwood near Hardy McManus Road in Evans, said things should be worked out soon.

“We are working with the county to address the necessary requirements and look forward to starting music lessons on Nov 9th.”

Mr. Reed and his team will offer a wide range of music lessons to include:

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Violin
  • Drum
  • Ukelele

Government officials want local business owners to know the following:

“Columbia County supports local businesses and encourages prospective business owners to contact the County early in the planning process so requirements can be addressed before work begins.”
