It’s a Military Monday! Each month on a Monday, Africa Thomas will be sharing her expertise on VA disability claims, ratings, and navigating the process for a successful submission.
She is a retired United States Army veteran with a combined 29 years of honorable service. Her first column centers on proof of your injury.
I am grateful for the opportunity to share information on VA service-connected disabilities in my first article for our local business paper.
Filing a VA claim can be a daunting task, and it can feel even more discouraging if your claim has been denied. However, there is a silver lining. Understanding the process and taking the time to gather all required information greatly increases your chances of a successful outcome.
One critical component of any claim is medical documentation. For example, if you injured your left knee during service and sought treatment at sick call, that record serves as medical evidence of a service-connected injury. When you submit this documentation with your claim, it can support the VA’s decision to grant a disability rating for that condition.
This is just a brief glimpse into the world of VA disability. More to follow.
