Multi-million-dollar expansion “connects” CSRA county

Comcast has completed a high-speed broadband expansion in McDuffie County, Georgia, as part of its $1 billion Project UP initiative. The expansion brings multi-gigabit Internet speeds with 99.9% reliability, supporting economic growth and connectivity needs for businesses and residents.

The expansion delivers high-speed Internet, mobile, and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business. The investment is helping to close the digital divide in areas that previously may not have had access.

“Reliable Internet access is no longer a luxury; it’s a necessity for families, businesses, and communities to grow,” said County Chairman Chase Beggs. “Comcast’s expansion strengthens our infrastructure, supports economic development, and gives our residents the tools they need to compete and connect in today’s world.”

To mark the occasion, Comcast hosted a celebration that included a surprise laptop giveaway, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a community block party. The company donated laptops to 47 students from Thomson High School and enhanced its Lift Zone at the McDuffie County Boys & Girls Club with a $10,000 grant. Over the past three years, Comcast has invested $48.5 million in Georgia’s non-profits and community initiatives focused on digital skills development and Internet adoption programs.

The laptop giveaway is part of Project UP, the company’s $1 billion commitment to create digital opportunity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility, and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.

Comcast also officially activated the Lift Zone at the McDuffie County Boys & Girls Club – reaffirming its commitment to supporting students and families with free, high-speed Wi-Fi and digital resources. While the Club has previously served as a Lift Zone, this relaunch marks a renewed focus on digital access and impact. To support the initiative, Comcast donated a $10,000 grant to the Club to enhance technology resources and programming within the space.

The celebration wrapped up with a community block party at the Club, featuring a DJ, face painting, a 360-degree photo booth, and a food truck. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with Xfinity and Internet Essentials representatives to learn more about the new services.

“Our work in McDuffie County is about more than building our network – it’s about building up communities,” said Mike McArdle, Comcast Regional Senior Vice President. “By expanding access to high-speed Internet, we’re investing in the future of this County. We’re proud to partner with local leaders and organizations who share our commitment to helping every resident thrive.”
