Much of south Augusta is a food desert, but an international grocery store chain is launching a new location in that area that will help to alleviate the problem.
ALDI will open its fifth CSRA store at 3121 Peach Orchard Road tomorrow, according to the company’s website. Other locations are in Augusta, North Augusta, Aiken, and Grovetown.
“Adding another affordable grocery option for south Augusta is a great step forward in helping to alleviate the food deserts that plague areas of our city,” said Augusta’s District 8 Commissioner, Brandon Garrett. “I welcome the investment in that area and hope it spurs more development.”

ALDI is known for having lower prices than other grocery store chains, thanks to its wide selection of store-brand items. The company has also announced its Thanksgiving Price Rewind, which means prices on many items, including stuffing and rolls, match those from November 2019. The promotion will last through Nov. 29.
“Providing amazing products at the absolute lowest prices is what we’ve always done, and we know right now that’s more important than ever,” said ALDI U.S. President, Dave Rinaldo. “We expect to welcome tens of millions of customers in our stores this Thanksgiving season, and we want them to know they can count on us.”
Founded in Germany in 1961, ALDI has more than 2,000 stores spread across much of the United States and employs more than 25,000 people.
