Paceline kicks off PaceDay 2023 in event happening tomorrow

As part of its year-round movement to cure cancer faster, Paceline is inviting the cancer-fighting community to participate in the “PaceDay Kick-Off Celebration” this Saturday, June 3, at Savannah River Brewing Company located at 813 Fifth Street, Augusta, GA 30901, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The event is open to the public and includes a social bike ride and yoga, followed by missional beer all in the spirit of fighting cancer as a community. The bar will open at 11 a.m. and the event will conclude at approximately 2 p.m.

According to a statement released by the organization, Paceline is well-placed for a big year following 2022’s fundraising season that saw a 25% increase in participation and a 20% increase in fundraising. This brought the cumulative totaling to be over $1 million, the most raised since Paceline’s first event in 2019.

“These funds are invested in innovative cancer research projects, from cancer prevention to advancing treatments for multiple types of cancer, as well as addressing racial disparities,” the statement read.

All of the participant-raised dollars support research done at the Georgia Cancer Center. It is made possible by operational funding from the MCG Foundation and other partners including Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear, and Caris Life Sciences.

Specific grant award winners from 2022 funds should be announced later this month.

Notable members of the community are expected to attend the event, including Martyn Jones, President of Paceline, Ian Mercier, the CEO of the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, and Dr. Justin Xavier Moore, a Paceline board member and assistant professor of cancer prevention.

Paceline participant award nominees and winners from the 2022 fundraising will also be present, including GCC Cancer Researchers, Dr. Malcolm Bevel and Dr. Nahid Mivechi.

Paceline holds fundraising year-round, with 100% of proceeds going to the Georgia Cancer Center. It’s annual “PaceDay” bike ride later this fall is on Sunday, October 15, 2023.
