Pet-focused business adds new service to fill need

Paws in Paradise finished a major expansion in 2023 to reach about 200 boarding rooms at its complex on Evans to Locks Road.

Now, the boarding facility is reimagining its space to add a wellness center to provide most veterinary services.

“We are not a pet hospital, but a boarding facility able to provide services similar to a veterinary office (vaccines, bloodwork, urinalysis, laser therapy, x-rays, ultrasounds, minor surgeries such as dental cleanings, end-of-life care), as well as intermediary services between regular veterinary office and pet hospital (such as triage to assess best route for treatment, whether go to pet’s personal veterinarian or immediate urgent care at a specialized veterinary hospital),” said owner Anne Dysinger.

Dysinger has about 15,000 square feet at her pet complex. The wellness center will utilize about 30 rooms and 3,000 square feet, once used for healthy boarding.

A veterinarian and vet assistants are on staff as part of the business. Dysinger equates the Petco/Vetco model with something similar.

“Medical boarding includes post-surgical care and health monitoring (including close collaboration with the pet’s own veterinarian who performed the original surgery), chronic-condition support, and quality-of-life care for older pets.

Other boarding facilities often limit to healthy guests, but Paws in Paradise is now capable of boarding dogs/cats with health problems, so pet parents can travel as needed or transfer their pet from a pet hospital setting to our facility, knowing their pets are being monitored by medical professionals on their behalf,” added Dysinger.

Paws in Paradise will continue to have many other pet care services like boarding, daycare, and grooming on campus.
