Pop-up coffee cart brings a taste of New Orleans to the CSRA

Thanks to Mallory and Jake Adkison, you can now enjoy a sip of N’awlins right here at home. It’s coffee with a twist, served cold-brewed in a take-home bottle or freshly made with added flavors.

The NOLA coffee cart can be found on most weekends at places like Edgefield Market or parked in front of businesses in and around the CSRA.

You may have sampled iced coffee, but cold brew is different. It’s brewed for 24 hours, without dilution.

“If you try our bottled coffee, you can take it home and add 2 or 3 ounces of water or milk. From our pop-up cart, we also make signature drinks by adding flavors to the coffee for a taste of New Orleans,” Mallory explained.

Famous for its unique café au lait, chicory roasted coffee, and the beignet pastry, New Orleans has long since enjoyed a strong reputation for its coffee. NOLA coffee can blend any or all of those unique flavors. (Click here to watch the video.)

Jake and Mallory Adkinson brought their love for New Orleans-style coffee to the CSRA.

The seed, or bean if you will, was planted years ago. Mallory’s family lived just outside New Orleans. She and Jake went to college in Pensacola where the New Orleans culture is prevalent. They shared a love for the city and their favorite cold-brewed coffee hangout. They brought their predilection for the unique brew back home to North Augusta and a business was born.

“Starting a business was both exciting and terrifying,” Mallory said. “I’m very detail-oriented which is good and meeting new people and being passionate about shopping local has helped us establish NOLA coffee.”

Since opening a month ago, they’ve focused on setting up in front of businesses, at schools, and even for baby showers, weddings, and at area markets like Edgefield.

“Eventually, the plan is to become a supplier to area stores and open a coffee shop.”

In the meantime, they’ll continue their “day” jobs. Jake is an assistant pastor at Lakeside Baptist Church and Mallory teaches science at Augusta Christian.

For now, they’ll be pushing their coffee cart around town and letting the good times roll.
