Retailer holds moving sale as it relocates to smaller store

HobbyTown is moving across town for the second time in three years. This major downsizing in the next few weeks will result in a move to one of the newest shopping centers in the CSRA.

The leisure retailer is moving into the Davis Square Shopping Center, which will now be 75% occupied, according to Jordan Trotter Commercial Realty, which handles the leasing in the center.

HobbyTown will be next to the Back Nine golf simulator experience and near Baldino’s Giant Jersey Subs.

What’s significant is that it is moving into a 2400 square foot space.

HobbyTown’s current location is significantly larger.

“He (Dusty Germo, owner) is in 8,600 square feet, plus he has another 2,100 square feet of storage next door,” said Don Lawrence, of DC Lawrence Real Estate, the leasing agent for the Shoppes at Petersburg on the Riverwatch Parkway near Old Evans Road.

Kirk’s Pool & Hearth, based in Greenwood, South Carolina, will now occupy HobbyTown’s footprint and offer sales, construction, and service of outdoor pools and fireplaces.

Since opening prior to Masters 2023, HobbyTown has offered model trains, remote control cars, drones, LEGO and STEM sets, while having the room to have demonstration areas.

The store’s owner will be discounting remaining merchandise and selling off store fixtures before the move.

Hobby Town’s original location was in the Anderson Plaza on the Bobby Jones Expressway. That was about 3,000 square feet.
