Unleash the power of your brain for professional and personal success

The human brain weighs just three pounds and is mostly water, yet it contains incredible power. According to marketing expert Mark Alison, it has power far beyond what the average person realizes.

Alison, a marketing expert and founder of The Alison Group (now Alison South), presented Future Planning in a seminar at Auben Realty last Thursday. His goal was to help those in attendance unlock the power of the brain.

“You have two brains – the working or subconscious brain and the thinking or conscious brain,” Alison said. “A thinking brain is a powerful tool but the subconscious is even more powerful.”

It is the subconscious brain that remembers everything – every word, sensation, and experience – in a person’s lifetime. Alison assured the group that all those things were in there, even if they can’t always be recalled.

In fact, the conscious brain – which Alison called the “bully brain” – can sometimes prevent the subconscious from recalling a fact. He gave the example of watching a movie and trying to recall what else you’ve seen the actor in. You might be stymied consciously trying to recall it, but as soon as you engage in another activity the bully brain moves out of the way and the subconscious pops out the information for you.

The point of Future Planning is to allow the subconscious to set your real priorities in life.

“What if instead of setting nebulous goals, we asked our subconscious what our priorities should be and the conscious brain agrees?” he asked.

He then presented a detailed step-by-step outline of how to unleash the subconscious throughout a weekend away from everything, including all electronics.

Several of those in attendance who had previously heard Alison’s advice and had done the weekend away, including Auben founder and CEO Tyson Schuetze, spoke of the big difference it made in setting professional and personal priorities that have led to business success.

“It’s about living life,” Alison said. “Don’t take life coming at you but let life live in you.”
