2 Questions for the Dean: Scholarship Program

Working your way up the corporate ladder takes time, schooling, and money. If you or your teenager is interested in a business future, scholarships could be the answer.

Here’s today’s sit down with Dean Mark Thompson.

ABD: Share with us about the Dean’s Scholar Program.

HULL: So, one of the things that we want to do in terms of recruiting some of the best and brightest students all throughout the state of Georgia and neighboring states as well as we created a Dean Scholar Program. And a lot of scholarships are done on an annual basis, and you have to reapply each and every year. But with the Dean’s Scholar Program, it is our premier scholarship.

Upon successful completion and maintaining a certain GPA and professional conduct, it gets renewed every year for up to four years. But what’s also special about the Dean’s Scholar Program is it also includes an experiential education fund. So, the student that is named the Dean Scholar not only has this renewable scholarship, but then they have a fund that they can use for things like study abroad or undergraduate research, anything that falls in that experiential space. It really allows us to go out and recruit.

ABD: Can you think of a student that was part of the Dean Scholar Program and maybe how it impacted their life?

HULL: So, we had a young lady that applied for the Dean’s Scholar program. College was what she was driven to do and wanted to do, not sure that the family situation could support that. This scholarship really has come in very handy in terms of being able to recruit her, and also for her to pursue college. You know, I think she would have ultimately figured out a way to do it, but I think it might have taken some time to get started, and this allowed her to immediately come into college, right out of high school, and she’s doing really well.
