Local charity supports U.S. troops stationed overseas
Burt Sappenfield has never served in the military, but every year, he helps to warm the hands and hearts of U.S. servicemembers all over the world. In 2009, Sappenfield, owner of Majestic Floor Care, established the Operation Handwarmer initiative, which has collected more than 150,000 items, including not only hand warmers but also toothpaste, nuts, protein bars, candy, and gloves, to ship to U.S. Army troops stationed overseas. “We work with chaplains, and they take them to the troops,” he said. Unlike other charities, Operation Handwarmer doesn’t accept monetary donations
