Appliance entrepreneur to open a new store in former Earth Fare building

Dave Barrett owns appliance stores on the East and West coasts, but in early July, he plans to open a fourth store in the former Earth Fare building located at 368 Furys Ferry Road, Suite 3 in Augusta.

Barrett, the owner of Dave’s Appliance Warehouse, has one store just outside of Athens and two more in Orange County, California.

He sells both new and B-Stock appliances, which refer to scratch-and-dent items and canceled orders, among others he buys from major companies. Unlike other appliance stores, Barrett won’t sell used items.

“I have the largest selection of appliances in the Southeast and Southwest,” Barrett, a Greenbrier High School graduate, said. “We’ll be an appliance store for everyone, whether you need a basic dryer or a chef’s kitchen.”

Dave’s Appliance Warehouse will offer some high-end brands, including Sub-Zero refrigerators.

Five years ago, he started buying and repairing appliances in his basement. Barrett then opened his first location in Georgia. He said his business fills a void.

“Appliances are hard to get,” he said. “It’s the one thing everyone needs.”

Barrett went into business to be his own boss and build a company with significant growth potential. He plans to open other locations in the future.

Barrett said he will have about 15 employees for the new store. Earth Fare closed many of its stores, including the one in Augusta, in 2020.
