Latest data from CyberSeek (www.cyberseek.org) finds the demand for cybersecurity talent is continuing to outpace the number of trained workers available for the positions. This is despite the growing availability of education and training programs. Cyberseek estimates workers are available for just 85% of the cybersecurity jobs nationwide. Dr. Brooks Keel, President of Augusta University, is spending his final weeks leading the institution. Keel assumed the presidency in July 2015. It marked a coming home for him. An Augusta native, he received his undergraduate degree from what was then Augusta College. He stayed to complete his graduate degree at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG). This week, more than 150 students are in town for the largest CyberPatriot Camp ever held. The camp hosted by the Alliance for Fort Eisenhower began yesterday and runs through Friday, June 7. The so-called Standard CyberPatriot Camp is designed for beginners with no prior cybersecurity knowledge and covers topics such as the CyberPatriot competition, cybersecurity careers, cyber ethics, online safety, computer fundamentals, virtual machines, and cyber threats. The man leading one of the largest, non-manufacturing, employers in the Augusta area is preparing to step down. Dr. Brooks Keel, President of Augusta University (AU), will be retiring from the position effective June 30, 2024. He assumed the role in July 2015.
