Business Profile: Mister Clean Machine USA

ABD: Please tell our readers which hotel we met at and how your service benefits them in ways we probably wouldn’t think of.

MCM USA: We were at the Home2 Suites in Grovetown. They wanted to get their image scores up and to create a sanitized environment for their patrons. We are using our drone to soft wash the building exterior and will also use it to clean the windows. Additionally, we are cleaning wood pergolas and all the concrete surfaces. It’s a complete cleaning high and low!

ABD: Explain the process with the operator below and the drone above

MCM USA: After establishing a flight plan and securing the area, the drone pilot will first wet the building with water (surrounding landscaping watered as well). Wetting the building cools off the surfaces and keeps our cleaning solutions from drying. Next step is to apply the cleaning solutions, let them dwell for 10 to 15 minutes before doing a thorough rinse. We then go back with deionized water to wash the windows. This ensures that no mineral deposits are left on the windows.

ABD: How did you come up with the idea of cleaning commercial buildings using a drone?

MCM USA: Drone cleaning has been around in larger cities for several years. Personally, I look for ways to be safer, and, quite frankly, I don’t like standing at heights! When we wanted to add another crew, we decided to design the truck to accommodate the drone. We have found that using a drone is safer, faster, and less taxing on our customers’ properties. We don’t have to rent a lift, so it becomes more economical for most multi-story buildings.

Here is a short drone video of the drone in action, featuring a recognizable church and showcasing the residential side of the business.

ABD: What are the benefits of cleaning roofs, steeples, facades, and water towers— since it’s not easily visible.

MCM USA: This is mostly about preserving your expensive asset. Cleaning can prevent water damage due to organic growth, blocking gutters, and growing under the edges of some roof shingles. If the water flows well off the surface, it can’t cause as much deterioration, especially to building facias. Dark spots also absorb heat and can cause your HVAC systems to work even harder in the summer months.

ABD: What are some other companies you have helped with, and what’s their overall feedback?

MCM USA: In general, most of the feedback has been “this is great! I thought I was going to have to paint, but now I can push that off!” Of course, we get the “I’ve never seen anything like this – this is cool.” At the end of the day, a lot of people realized that we could clean and get out of their way in a lot less time than they expected. We cleaned hospital buildings, church steeples, and hotels, all in the CSRA. Hard to get to areas that may have a lot of landscaping they don’t want damaged, or where safety is a premium by not putting people on lifts.

ABD: What type of training and education do you implement at Mr. Clean Machine USA?

MCM USA: Training is multi-fold, depending on our people’s capabilities or desires.  We spend several hours on video training before even operating a cleaning component.  Spending time understanding chemicals (safety and how they are used on various surfaces), equipment operation, and how we work as a team.  Pilots go through that training AND a course to help them understand the FAA regulations.  The pilots are required to have an FAA Part 107 Pilot’s License.  We help them get this, but it takes weeks of classroom and multiple flying lessons in an open field to make sure they are comfortable with flying around buildings.

ABD: Explain your slogan… “High or Low, wherever there’s grime, there we go”

MCM USA: Ha! Kind of cheesy, right?  I wanted to convey that we can clean anywhere.  Many companies have to stop at 2 or 3 stories high.  We can go over 175′ up, which isn’t always needed, but we simply don’t have the limitations others do.  One other thing that most don’t know is that our drone is NDAA-compliant.  This means we are US-made (no parts from China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, or Venezuela). This is extremely important to our government and to security-sensitive businesses.

ABD: Why did you decide to form Mr. Clean Machine USA and involve family in the business?

MCM USA: Initially, the company was formed to help employ a few people that couldn’t always gain employment with large companies.  It has morphed into a full-time family business that is committed to helping other people and to helping the CSRA.

ABD: Explain your community service efforts, like Widow Wash.

MCM USA: I think that we are built to serve others.  Washing the home for a widow seems insignificant to some, but not to that lady that no longer has someone that works on her home.  We also try to help other organizations – in fact, we are doing some complementary cleaning at the YMCA Camp Lakeside at the end of this month (though the Realtors of Greater Augusta).  What good is a business if we can’t be connected with our community?  Not only does this help others, but it also strengthens our employees’ sense of purpose.  Cleanliness next to Godliness?  I think there is something to that!
