Businesses help local nonprofits collect school supplies for students in need

When local schools start in less than a month, students will have the supplies they need, thanks to a CSRA nonprofit and its business partners.

This month, the United Way of the CSRA will hold its annual Stuff the Bus campaign, sponsored by several companies, including SRP Federal Credit Union, Solvay Specialty Polymers, and WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone.

“Our goal is to maximize student learning this year and every year, and we’re proud to step in once again to help families in need,” said United Way President and CEO, Brittany Burnett.

The United Way will collect supplies and monetary donations at three events. The first will be held during an Augusta GreenJackets game on Sunday, July 17 beginning at 4 p.m. Those who are unable to attend can drop off donations in advance at the SRP Park box office or Hive Pro Shop, as well as any SRP Federal Credit Union location.

Supplies will go to students in Richmond, Columbia, and other surrounding counties.

The third event will be held at the Waynesboro Walmart on Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event will collect donations exclusively for Burke County students.

Donations for any of these events can also be made at WJBF News Channel 6 located at 1336 Augusta West Parkway.
