Businesses help celebrate It’s Spooky To Be Hungry’s 30th year with fundraising

What began in the early 1990’s as a food drive in a Minnesota neighborhood by a former Augusta resident has evolved into a major community fundraising campaign in her hometown that feeds hundreds of thousands of hungry families annually. Former Augusta resident, Evelyn Browne started It’s Spooky To Be Hungry in 1992. She donated the concept to Golden Harvest Food Bank, which has become a major fundraiser for the food bank. Banking group gives out $1 Million bonus

CSRA schools have a bit more cash on hand – a total of $1 million – thanks to SRP Federal Credit Union’s Affinity Debit Card program. SRP announced recently that it reached $1 million in giving back to participating area high schools. That includes 22 South Carolina schools and eight in Georgia. In the program, SRP members use debit cards linked to the school of their choice. Every time a purchase is made using the card, SRP donates money to that particular school. Downtown businesses help fund the beautification of Augusta

Sarah Bunjevac is excited about having her business featured in a local coloring book. Bunjevac owns Halo Salon & Spa located at 1122 Broad St., one of 26 businesses, most of which are in downtown Augusta, that will be featured in the book. Breania Dorsey put an extra $200 in her pocket yesterday morning. Dorsey, a customer service representative with Classic Collision, a collision repair shop in Augusta, along with all the company’s employees nationwide, received two $100 bills to celebrate the opening of its 200th location, which is in Houston. She has worked for Classic Collision since the summer of 2018 when the Augusta location opened. A local free health clinic is now able to offer its patients behavioral health services, thanks to a $25,000 grant from Bank of America. After Hurricane Ian caused monumental damage to homes and businesses in Southwest Florida last week, a commercial cleaning company with franchises in Augusta and Fort Myers, acted quickly to ensure supplies were delivered to those who lost everything.
