Many CSRA business leaders look forward to Masters Week because it gives them a chance to watch golf, go on vacation, or take some much-needed time off from work, but for Golden Harvest Food Bank, hunger never takes a vacation. On Thursday, a team from Wheels Up, a New York-based private aviation firm, volunteered to prepare and serve meals at The Master’s Table Soup Kitchen & Urban Farm located at 702 Fenwick St. The Master’s Table serves hot meals to local residents 365 days a year. ATC Development, which owns and operates various apartment communities throughout the CSRA, recently hosted a blood drive for a non-profit donation center, according to Faith Meador. Meador, the company’s marketing coordinator, said they held the drive last Thursday and collected 15-20 donations in five hours. “We are partnering with The Blood Connection to host more blood drives at our other properties this year as well and our average community houses 200-300 people,” she said. Last year, attorneys and law firms throughout the state raised more than $880,000, the equivalent of about 3.5 million meals, to feed hungry Georgia families. Of that, local legal organizations raised a little over $33,000, which allowed Golden Harvest Food Bank to provide 99,000 of those meals, thanks in large part to five CSRA firms. Dealing with trauma can be a major challenge for children, but a local IT firm has donated $2,500 to a non-profit organization that serves these victims and their families. IntelliSystems made the donation to Children’s Place Inc., which provides counseling and other services to families in five South Carolina counties: Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Edgefield, and McCormick. The company’s donation will be used for the nonprofit’s Guardian Angel program, which provides clothing, classroom supplies, and other items for the children it serves. Ken Lucas estimates his Columbia County automotive repair business performs $20,000 to $30,000 in free vehicle repairs each year. But the company recently helped one of its own team members who’s dealing with a family tragedy. Lucas owns the Evans location of Christian Brothers Automotive at 4481 Washington Road in Evans. The Christian-based company has more than 250 locations nationwide. One of his employees, Ernie Randall, lost his 13-year-old granddaughter, Julia Chavez, last Monday, Feb. 13.
