Columbia County combat veteran starts business to help area homeowners and contractors

The Aflac duck has been wildly successful for the Columbus, Georgia-based insurance company. HammerDuck, headquartered in Martinez, is off to a fast start in connecting homeowners and contractors to do business together while keeping the money in the CSRA.

“I built it because of what I watched after (Hurricane) Helene. Neighbors couldn’t get a roof or a tree crew scheduled,” said Urbon Thompson, who works full-time for the Navy and retired after 21 years of other military service.

Local contractors pay national lead services like Angi and Thumbtack $15 to $100 or more per lead, often for a lead sold to several competitors, whether or not they win the job.”

“That money leaves the CSRA and never comes back.”

So, Thompson decided to build his own app to connect local homeowners and local pros in a way in which money will not be an obstacle.

All contractors receive the service free for 60-90 days from November 1st. The cost will then be between $20-25 per month based on a few factors. (Contact HammerDuck for more specifics.)

“HammerDuck never takes a cut of the job,” added Thompson. In the first few weeks of operation, Thompson says HammerDuck recruited 40 local Pros. Homeowners posted 22 jobs and received 77 quotes.

Here is an example above of what appears on the app.

Here are a few reviews left on the HammerDuck website or Google Page:

Homeowner: “Fast service, came prepared to get the job done, great crew, and did a great job completing the project. Will hire HammerDuck again!

Local Pro: My experience with HammerDuck. It definitely solved the issues I’ve had with other similar platforms.” Darryl M, a local Home Service Pro on HammerDuck

“My five-year plan for HammerDuck is to expand outwards from the CSRA, to eventually provide service down to the Savannah (Low Country),  Macon, and into Columbia,” he added.
