Corporation buys longtime Augusta-based HVAC business

When the temperature is 105 degrees and your house feels like the Sahara Desert, you need your air conditioning fixed right away. A local company that’s been repairing and replacing heating and air conditioning systems for 96 years is now under new ownership.

Sig Cox Heating and Air Conditioning, which was founded in 1926 by Sigman Cox, has been sold to JSM Family Holdings Corp. for an undisclosed amount. The company’s president, Jeff Miller, will serve as CEO of Sig Cox.

“As new owners, my wife, Suzi, and I see an opportunity to build upon this strong foundation,” Miller said. “To acquire a business with such employee and customer loyalty is a rarity in this day and age.”

Jeff Miller, left, the new owner of Sig Cox Heating and Air, shakes hands with the former president, John Haynie.

John Haynie, former president, and Sigman Cox’s grandson worked for the company for more than 40 years. As president, Haynie helped the company expand by opening an office in Columbia and buying Beaufort Air Conditioning & Heating.

Located at 1431 Greene St. in Augusta, Sig Cox provides a variety of HVAC services for residential and commercial customers, including smart thermostat installation and heat pump replacements.

Columbia-based Sunbelt Business Brokers handled the sale.
