Downtown businesses kick off weeklong event today

Who is your buddy business? Local merchant association Downtown Soul City is hosting Buddy Week – a weeklong celebration of community and friendship between downtown businesses. During the week, the public can get a glimpse of behind-the-scenes footage of their favorite spots downtown to show everyone just how much fun they have working together.

The week will end on National Best Friends Day, June 8, where participating businesses will offer incentives to customers who visit the “buddy” locations. The public can engage with the businesses on social media through posts and videos on Downtown Soul City and participating businesses’ Instagram and Facebook pages. On Saturday, June 8, if you visit buddy businesses, you can get a gift with purchase or other goody at each business!

“I think partnerships like this promote downtown businesses. It’s a way to show we are working together to make downtown businesses an even better experience for shoppers,” explained Downtown Soul City Director, John Porter.

There are lots of participating businesses to visit and the more buddies you visit, the more buddy goodies you get. Participating businesses include:

  • Buona Caffe
  • Vance’s Bakery Bar
  • Urban K9
  • New Moon Cafe
  • Mod Ink
  • Tip Top Taps
  • FIELD Botanicals
  • Humanitree House
  • Grantski Records
  • Tacocat
  • Morris Museum Store
  • Boll Weevil
  • The Book Tavern
  • Nacho Mamas
  • Tiffinie Bleu Bridal
  • Craft & Vine
  • Laziza
  • Augusta Candle Co.

As ABD has previously reported, past events attendance and positive feedback have been good for building downtown businesses and promoting “Shop Local.”

“Our recent GameFest, Downtown Get Down, and Small Business Saturday in November were popular. Beyond our latest Buddy Week venture, we are already looking at another summer camp-themed event in July, Camp Soul City. We are also considering a new event in the fall.”

Augusta is the city where Soul was born via James Brown, thus, Downtown Soul City organization is dedicated to keeping the soul and heart of residents and visitors engaged in supporting local downtown businesses. For more information on becoming a VIP member, click here.
