How travel internationally is helping Augusta Business

Dr. Mark Thompson, a faculty member at AU’s Hull College of Business, helped to oversee the 2026 travel itinerary for students out of the country. He explains where they are heading and what they may learn.

“Augusta University has a variety of study abroad trips this next academic year, but the Hull College of Business has two trips planned in the spring term. One is for more senior-oriented business majors, where they’re interested in international business or entrepreneurship, and that trip is actually going to Italy. The second trip we have planned is for more of your introductory business students, and that trip is going to England and Scotland. The study abroad trips really are life-changing. Every student will have a different experience, even though they all went on the same tour. They were all there in the same place. The things they take away just cannot be replicated in the classroom. It is quite an amazing experience to see them and hear them talk about their experiences.

We have them go on tours of businesses. We have business professionals from that country come and give lectures to the students. Students often have some sort of series of assignments that they have to do while they’re abroad. They do a lot of pre-work leading up to the actual trip, so we really do what we can to maximize the most out of the time that they’re there.”
