Is your CSRA company pretty cool?

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce is looking for businesses making the coolest stuff in the Peach State.

The application period is open for “The Coolest Thing Made in Georgia, a competition the Chamber has launched with Synovus. All businesses in Georgia are eligible to participate in the drive to find the state’s outstanding innovators.

In the news release announcing the competition, Chris Clark, President & CEO of the Georgia Chamber, said it is a way to celebrate talent, ingenuity, and enterprising spirit. He said those characteristics will shape Georgia’s future.

“This initiative recognizes the groundbreaking ideas and products being created right here at home—ideas that will fuel our economy for years to come,” he said. “2025 is the start of a new chapter in Georgia’s economic story. By spotlighting the innovators and makers driving our industries forward, we aim to inspire the next generation of creators and solidify Georgia’s place as a leader in innovation and enterprise.”

Russell Lahodny, President and CEO of the Columbia County Chamber, told ABD this novel approach highlights traditional businesses, but also puts the spotlight on those doing different and unique things.

“I think it’s a great way to highlight some of those businesses that don’t probably get normal recognition because they don’t fit into the mold of, we’re a law firm, or we’re this or that, or whatever,” he said. “They got something cool, they make something cool that is unique, and it’s right here in Georgia. And I think it’s great that they’re kind of highlighting that.”

First, business owners, manufacturers, makers, and creators enter their product into a social media bracket. The next step borrows from the sports world with businesses squaring off in head-to-head matchups. Winners advance to the next step, which is voting by the public.

“The Coolest Thing Made in Georgia is a reminder that innovation starts with individuals who care deeply about making an impact, and that’s precisely the kind of spirit that helps strengthen local economies,” said Kevin Blair, CEO and President of Synovus said in the news release. “Being the presenting sponsor of this competition is our way of celebrating the people, businesses, and ingenuity behind Georgia’s most inspiring ideas and advancements.”

While the competition is a lighthearted approach, Lahodny said the goal is serious.

“At the end of the day, anyway we can promote local businesses, homegrown businesses that are here in Georgia, that are doing those types of things, and their product, I think it’s a win-win for everybody. It’s a win for the business, but it’s a win for Georgia. “We’re promoting some of the cool things that are being done here that aren’t traditional.”

Nominations close on June 20 at 5 p.m. Once the final 64 approved entrants are selected, public voting will open at 9 a.m. on July 7. Votes must be cast by 5 p.m. on July 10. During the voting period, businesses are urged to use social media to boost their chance of winning while enhancing their brand visibility.

The winner will be announced at the Georgia Chamber Congressional Luncheon in Columbus on August 20.
