It could be 2028 for Trader Joe’s in Evans

The rumors about a prime spot for Trader Joe’s supermarket development in Evans— are apparently false.

Back in February, sources told ABD and radio host Austin Rhodes that Trader Joe’s would build upon a large tract of land directly behind the Columbia County Performing Arts Center.

Based on ABD’s conversation with Trader Joe’s marketing director and the fact that the land is being marketed now— it won’t happen there.

“We have plans to open a Trader Joe’s store in Evans in the next couple of years. We do not yet have a location to confirm,” said Nakia Rohde from TJ.

ABD pressed Rohde for more specific info and learned why it will be a long time before shoppers will see a store like this in Evans.

“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year. In some neighborhoods, we can find a wonderful location and prepare it for customers in less than a year; other times, it can take multiple years to find and prepare the perfect spot for a Trader Joe’s store, ” added Rhode.

Back in February 2026, Rhode told ABD what shoppers can expect when Trader Joe’s opens in Evans.

“From unique foods and beverages that you won’t find anywhere else to daily staples like milk, eggs, and bananas, Trader Joe’s offers a wide selection of both domestic and imported products, all of which have been approved by the Trader Joe’s tasting panel.”

Ms. Rohde also gave the impression that Trader Joe’s will be a big supporter of the Golden Harvest Food Bank and others.

“As a neighborhood grocery store, every Trader Joe’s store donates 100% of products that go unsold but remain fit to enjoy to a wide range of food banks and food recovery agencies, seven days a week.”

Based on today’s news, it could be 2028 before the right property is found and construction is complete for a Trader Joe’s grand opening in Evans.
