Local bagel shop and deli opens its doors

The wait is over. A New York-style bagel shop is officially open for business in Aiken.

ABD previously told you about Straight Outta Brooklyn Bagel & Delicatessen, owned by New York natives, Joseph and Yvette Gallacchi. The business, which is located at 106 Park Ave. Southwest, opened its doors on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, the couple thanked everyone who visited the eatery that day.

“We had a few glitches, but we hope everyone enjoyed their food,” they said. “We are working behind the scenes to fix a few things for our official grand opening on Wednesday, May 3.”

Straight Outta Brooklyn serves not only bagels but also a variety of breakfast and deli sandwiches, as well as vegan menu options. Some of their deli sandwiches are made with half a pound of artisan bread and half a pound of meat.

Joseph, who owns eateries in upstate New York and travels there every other week, said their bagels are partially baked in New York City, which is how they came up with the business’s name.

Besides bagels, a variety of breakfast and deli sandwiches are on the menu at Straight Outta Brooklyn.

“We’re trying to offer a big city product at small city prices,” he said. “We try to keep prices as low as we can with this economy.”

When they moved to Aiken in December, they searched for local bagel shops but couldn’t find one.

“I’ve always wanted to have a bagel shop,” Joseph said. “I’m excited about bringing good New York bagels down to Aiken.”

Straight Outta Brooklyn Bagel & Delicatessen is open Wednesday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit sobbagel.com/ or call 803-226-0470.
