Local business owners make party decorations with a purpose

After creating elaborate balloon decorations for events at their church, Nicki Carnes and Terri Mullis decided to launch their own party supply business.

Last month, Carnes and Mullis opened Saving Grace Events, a business that provides decorations for a variety of celebrations, including graduation parties, birthdays, and baby showers. They create various types of decorations, such as banners, floral arrangements, and centerpieces.

“Both of us enjoy decorating, and I do all the decorations for the church,” said Carnes, women’s connections director for New Passion Church, located next door to Timms Harley-Davidson of Augusta. “We had talked about it for a while.”

Saving Grace Events owners, Terri Mullis, on the right, and Nicki Carnes can create custom decorations for any special event.

She’s also married to Nick Carnes, the church’s lead pastor, who plans to take a group from New Passion to Israel early next year. They hope to earn enough money from Saving Grace Events to cover the cost of the trip, but they plan to keep the business going after that.

“We’ve done birthday parties and baby showers,” Carnes said. “We have three coming up: two graduation parties and a birthday party.”

A custom balloon football player and goal post were created for a GA Dawg fan birthday party.

Both owners work full-time during the day, so they will book events on the weekends. She said their prices are competitive with other local event-planning businesses.

“The prices include delivery and set up,” Carnes said.
