Local business owners to provide advice at first-time homebuyer event

Local business owners and real estate investors, Ashleigh Brooks, her mother Sandra Brooks, and Porsche Bennett, are financial literacy advocates that want to help people enjoy the benefits of home ownership. They joined with a publicist, Susan Dilworth (PICTURED ABOVE) to host this free community networking event, “Taste of Success,” focused on first-time homebuyers. This event will connect buyers with other professionals, such as real estate agents and loan officers, who can help guide them through the process.

Space is limited; as of Wednesday afternoon, only five spots were available.

This panel of Subject Experts will answer questions on Sunday, December 4, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Naaiya’s Antiques & Flowers, located at 108 Macartan St. in downtown Augusta.

“It’s a way to educate people looking to buy a home, whether now or in the future; A lot of people have questions,” Ashleigh Brooks, owner of Main Premier Enterprises, LLC, said. “There are many people who are probably in a position to buy a home, but they don’t know because they’ve always rented.”

The event will cover various topics, such as qualifications for buying a home, choosing the right lender, saving for a down payment, and understanding the importance of credit.

But with soaring rent prices, Brooks said it’s imperative to understand the process. This event will simplify it and help buyers avoid potential pitfalls, such as signing up for a high-interest mortgage loan or taking on more debt to make other purchases.

“The process can be very tedious and aggravating,” she said. “But we love helping people get in a better situation.”

Brooks decided to spearhead the event because so many people have asked her questions about buying a home. In the future, she wants to make it a more significant event for up to 50 people.

“For right now, we are keeping it intimate,” Brooks said. “People are afraid to open up when there are too many people.”
