Local dessert entrepreneur recognized as a top businesswoman in Columbia County

Susan See was a local attorney, a career she loved, for more than 25 years until a friend told her about a franchise opportunity that piqued her interest – and she was recently awarded for her role in running that franchise.

See and her husband, James, own Nothing Bundt Cakes franchise locations in both Evans and Aiken. Last week, she was selected as the 2022 Business Woman of the Year, presented by Bank of America, at the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce Executive Luncheon Series.

“I was really surprised,” See said. “It’s such a great honor to be recognized.”

The couple opened their first location in Mullins Crossing at 4217 Washington Road, Suite 7 in July 2018, and the Aiken location opened on March 5. Nothing Bundt Cakes sells dessert cakes in a variety of sizes and flavors, as popular flavors are chocolate chip, lemon, red velvet, and white chocolate raspberry.

Besides having the opportunity to serve delicious cakes, See enjoys interacting with her customers and helping to bring a little joy into their lives.

“It’s really great to be part of people’s celebrations,” See said.

She also loves the opportunity she has to mentor her employees and help them become leaders. See said they have experienced some staffing problems, but they’re currently fully staffed.

“We haven’t had to close or reduce our hours, which is great because some bakeries have,” she said.

James also quit his job and works with the business full-time. They both enjoy their new careers as business owners.

See would advise other women who are considering opening a business to try it, but first do their research to ensure it’s a good fit for them.

“There are so many opportunities out there for everyone,” she said. “Just be smart about it.”

See is honored to receive the award because she knows there are many great businesswomen in Columbia County.

“I appreciate the Chamber and Bank of America for having this award,” she said.
