When it comes to snack foods, boiled peanuts have long been a Southern favorite. But Jacob Lyons recently launched a business that adds unique flavors to the traditional salty snack.
Lyons, owner of The Peanut Palace, a local home-based business, creates and sells boiled peanuts in a variety of flavors, such as original, Cajun, salt ‘N’ vinegar, and buttery garlic, as well as peanut brittle. So far, salt ‘N’ vinegar has been the most popular flavor.
He decided to start The Peanut Palace in September after some friends in his native Alabama launched a successful boiled peanut business. Lyons sells one-quart bags for $7 each and sandwich bags of peanut brittle for $5 each. He buys his peanuts from Roots Produce in Evans.

He currently offers pickup and delivery from his home in Martinez and charges a $4 delivery fee. For now, Lyons is selling his peanuts on Facebook and at pop-up events, but he eventually hopes to launch his own storefront.
“It’s going better than expected,” Lyons said. “We’re selling out every week.”
His favorite part of owning the business so far has been developing new flavors, which are sometimes suggested by his customers.
“We’re always open to customer suggestions on new flavors,” he said. “We’re working on other things we can offer.”

Lyons is currently working on a new flavor called Nashville hot. He said the hardest part of running The Peanut Palace has been marketing his products, but most of the feedback he has received has been positive.
“Everybody has said the price is great for the amount,” Lyons said.
