You may have hired another company to build and maintain your business website, but you’re still responsible for ensuring the site complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to Rick Donaldson.
Donaldson, CEO of the M3 Agency, a local marketing firm, will discuss that topic at this month’s Third Thursday Business Builder hosted by the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, August 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chamber Conference Room.
He will be joined by two other presenters: M3 Digital Strategist, Mike Parsons and Walton Options Director of Development & Communications, Ann Campbell-Kelly. They will present “ADA Compliance and Website Accessibility: Building a Better User Experience.”
“It’s a federal law that your website must be ADA compliant, but most local businesses are unaware of this legal requirement,” Donaldson said.
He said he’s noticed an increase in the number of businesses being sued for compliance issues.
“The timing is great on this because we believe we now have an affordable, tested solution to help businesses become and remain ADA compliant, which we will share information about in the presentation,” Donaldson said. “Walton Options is going to approach the seminar as an opportunity to explain the benefits of making your website ADA compliant to include consumer behavior and recruiting practices.”
Signed in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, the ADA prohibits discrimination based on disability.
The event is free for Chamber members and costs $15 for prospective members. The registration deadline is Monday, August 15 at 2 p.m. To register, visit augustametrochamber.com/events/third-thursday-business-builder-august-2022/register.
