Local restaurant owners to open second CSRA location

People living and working in Augusta will no longer have to drive to Evans to enjoy fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and other Southern favorites.

Today, Goolsby’s will celebrate the grand opening of its second location at 3122 Wrightsboro Road, across the street from Forest Hills Golf Club. The restaurant’s co-owner, Wilkes Goolsby, said, unlike other businesses, they won’t give away free items today.

“I anticipate us being pretty busy, so we’re not going to do anything extra,” Goolsby said.

He has a couple of reasons to be excited about the new location.

“I’m really excited about the drive-thru because we don’t have that in Evans and reaching a new customer base,” Goolsby said.

In case you need a southern food fix, the new location on Wrightsboro Road can satisfy your craving.

The drive-thru won’t be open during the grand opening, but they plan to begin using it soon. The Wrightsboro Road restaurant is also located near Augusta University, so many of its customers will probably be college students.

He said many people in Augusta have told him they wanted to try their food but never visited the one in Evans. It will also have slightly different hours than the Evans location at 4460 Washington Road, Suite 9.

“We will close at 7 instead of 8,” he said.

They have hired 26 employees for the new restaurant. Goolsby’s was founded in 2005 by his late father, Richard Goolsby, who died in a car accident in 2021. Goolsby owns and operates the restaurant with his mom and sister.

“We’re using the grand opening to train people and put people in place,” he said.
