Since 2020, Ramiro Galvan’s local Mexican restaurant has had its own food truck he uses at various events, but he now also plans to use it for his other eatery located in downtown Augusta.
Galvan owns both Taqueria El Rey located on Washington Road in Martinez and Munchies Lab on Walton Way in Augusta. He started El Rey on Wheels, which serves a variety of Mexican fares, such as tacos and burritos. But people now have the option of getting other menu items, including hot dogs, hamburgers, and even provocatively shaped waffles, for their events.
Galvan said they haven’t used the food truck in a while because they didn’t have a full crew, but they now have enough workers.
“We’ve done a lot of events in neighborhoods and a lot of weddings,” he said. “We also did a bachelor party.”
Galvan said many of the neighborhood events were held at pools, where people preferred hot dogs to tacos. He also took the Munchies Lab truck to an event hosted by the Dropthedis Podcast.
Part of the reason Galvan decided to launch the truck again was that Munchies Lab will close for a month while the restaurant’s air conditioning units are being repaired.
“I’m excited to reach more people,” he said.
Many of his customers at that restaurant are younger and work at the downtown hospitals. Galvan looks forward to interacting with more Columbia County residents.
