Local shopping center sold for more than $20 million

For nearly 17 years, Eddie and Carol Kennedy have owned and operated Great Deals on Furniture in the Village Plaza shopping center on Bobby Jones Expressway. The busy center, previously owned by an Ohio-based company, has been sold for a little over $20 million.

Carol said she and her husband haven’t met the new owners yet, but they have received emails and phone calls from them. The couple isn’t worried about possible changes that could affect their business.

“We had a great working relationship with the previous owners, and we hope to have a great relationship with the new owners,” Carol said. “As long as things don’t change for us tenants here in the shopping center, it doesn’t matter who owns it.”

Other tenants in the more than 208,000-square-foot shopping center include Bealls Outlet, Tractor Supply Co., and GNC. California-based Matthews Real Estate Investment Services and Vice President, Johnny Blue Craig represented the seller in this transaction.

“After a lengthy ownership period that involved extensive expansions and renovations, the seller accomplished their objective on the project and can redeploy the capital into new projects,” Craig said. “Both the seller and buyer achieved a win on this transaction, and it was a pleasure being able to facilitate that process.”

Carol said what’s important to her is that common-area maintenance, including lights, parking lots, and painting, will continue.

“We hope it continues to be a safe place to shop,” she said.
