Nationally known chef opens new Aiken restaurant

What is a neon fig? Not what you think. It’s a new restaurant opening soon in Aiken. One of the owners was raised in Aiken, Cecelia Roust. The other, Marvin Sterling, is a chef and her boyfriend with some serious kitchen credentials.

Cecelia managed restaurants in Savannah. Georgia. Marvin has been featured on Burger, Brews, and Que on the Food Network and Food Paradise for the Travel Channel.

They have both opened several restaurants for various companies, but the Neon Fig is the first they’ve owned together.

When COVID hit they had plenty of time to think about their new venture in Aiken and coming home.

“Cecelia reels me in with all my ideas, but I believe we came up with a great concept for Aiken,” Sterling explained.

The idea is thinking outside the box and incorporating as many fresh, local ingredients as possible, including NKBJ Microgreens and local farmers markets.

“Our concept for Neon Fig and our LLC, Neon Hospitality, is new, modern, colorful, flavorful, and fresh.”

To that end, Neon Fig will offer a cornbread waffle BLT, house made soups, sauces, and dressings, among other brunch and lunch choices. They will also offer a full bar and craft cocktails.

“Cecelia’s family is in Aiken, and this is now our home, so we are ready to create a home for great, fresh food.”

Neon Fig’s hours will be 9:00 am to 6:00 pm every day except Tuesday. They will also offer coffee and pastries from 8:00 am until 9:00 am on those same days.

Neon Fig is located at 110 SW Park Avenue in Aiken. Mark your calendar for Monday, February 21, for their opening day.

In case you didn’t know, that’s President’s Day. As a bonus, we’ll let you in on a little-known fact. Dwight Eisenhower had a grill installed on a White House porch for his personal use. Cooking and grilling were a passion for him.

And so it is with serving up food for Cecelia and Marvin at Neon Fig. For more information, visit their Facebook page or call 803-226-0424.
