New owner promises change at unconventional CSRA convenience store

A popular store in Aiken County now has a new owner.

Dave’s Grill & Grocery is the only store in the small town of Couchton, South Carolina in Aiken County. The store was just purchased by Andrew Siders – vice chairman of the Aiken County Council.

Andrew Siders – vice chairman of the Aiken County Council – bought Dave’s Grill & Grocery convenience store on Thursday, Aug. 12. Dave Golding – the previous owner – just retired after running the business for 38 years.

Located at 3286 Wagener Road in the small town of Couchton, Dave’s Grill & Grocery is no ordinary convenience store. “We have a full grill,” says Siders. They serve a variety of meals, such as barbecue, chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs. Unlike other convenience stores, Dave’s also sells fresh meat, including chicken, steaks, and pork chops. He explains the store even cuts meat for customers. Because the business is so unique, Siders refers to it as a “hybrid convenience store” model.

Dave’s has a full grill and serves a variety of meals, including steaks, chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs.

He has already decided to institute some changes at the store. “We’re applying for our beer and wine license,” Siders states. He also plans to sell lottery tickets – another item the store has never sold before. Because there are so many horse farms in that town, Siders came up with the idea to work with a local horse supplier to sell their products at Dave’s. “They’ll stock the shelves, and I’ll take a percentage of the profits,” he says. Eventually, Siders would like to open similar stores throughout South Carolina. “I have to perfect the model first,” he adds.

Siders explains many Couchton residents depend on the business because it’s the only store in town, so they would otherwise have to travel to either Wagener or Aiken to buy groceries. He plans to continue providing “service to the community.”

For more information, visit the store’s Facebook page or call 803-648-7751. The store is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
