Preparations for new retailer opening this spring

New Poolwerx franchisee, Neil Gwynne will be dipping his toes a little deeper into the business waters around March 1st.  He’s now painting his Riverwood Town Center brick-and-mortar shop, “Mariner Blue” per the instructions of his franchisor.

“I love having the backing of a company that’s been doing this for 30 years. I like being around pools and I like an honest day’s work,” said the former Amazon executive.

Gwynne looked at other franchises but was impressed with the Poolwerx track record and their research. He says there are more than 7,000 pools in Metro Augusta. Gwynne is also making relationships with area Home Owner Association (HOA) staff, many of which manage pools.

He opted to paint the 1,650-square-foot store last week to be presentable for a local artist, who was coming in yesterday to do a holiday event. He says being part of the community is important to him.

In Gwynne’s previous corporate gig, when needed he helped with packages, but mostly coached more than 100 managers and thousands of Amazon employees as part of the Appling launch.

Once open, Gwynne will work when needed in the store, but mostly be out talking to customers and running the business. The store will open seven days a week with two employees selling pool supplies and equipment. “We’ll have filters and pumps and heaters and more,” said Gwynne.

He says he’ll operate two cleaning trucks. “If you don’t clean your pool once a week, you can get in trouble fast,” he said. He’ll hire a separate crew to run an additional service van as sometimes water color can turn green or clients might need a liner installed. Team members are also trained to balance the water, vacuum and brush the pool, and check equipment.

Gwynne expects to have 10 employees on his team once the store opens in the Spring and the service calls start. Pricing will be a combination of flat rate pricing, hourly rates, and monthly packages depending on the scope of the work, the size of the pool, and more.
