Restaurant moves from Richmond to Columbia County

A kid-friendly ice cream shop is out and an adult-oriented restaurant is in on 3830 Washington Road in the West Town Shopping Center.

Munchie’s Snacks will replace Frosty Rolls, next to a long-time tenant, Little Dutch Bakery.

Ramiro Galvan also owns Taqueria El Rey, a popular Mexican restaurant in the same shopping center. Galvan is also known for his community service with food donations and volunteerism to help young entrepreneurs.

He also made news in the summer of 2022 when he opened Munchie’s Lab on 1022 Walton Way to satisfy the late-night “munchies” of the Augusta crowd. Galvan closed the restaurant after a little more than a year, blaming poor foot traffic.

In a story we first published in May 2022, Galvan told us about his eclectic menu of anything from sushi to hot dogs. He even served provocatively-shaped waffles (see the lower right corner of the menu). He got that idea from a restaurant in California. Some people thought his restaurant was a bit “raunchy” and he wasn’t bothered by it.

“There are a lot of people who won’t want to order it, and I totally respect that,” Galvan said last May.

ABD has held this updated story for two days, while waiting for a callback from Galvan to discuss in detail the menu and location. We did reach the Columbia County Commissioners office, who confirmed the move to the West Town Shopping Center.

When asked twice about the provocative food items Galvan served in Richmond County, a spokesperson declined to comment on whether this was discussed with commissioners or if Galvan will be serving the same food choices.
