Best of Real Talk Real Estate: The Resurrection of Jones Creek Subdivision

Editor’s note: With all eyes on Augusta this week and visitors pouring in from across the country, we thought it would be a good time to refocus on a neighborhood that’s a good fit for someone who loves golf and might be ready for moving day.

Jones Creek’s disputes related to the drainage situation at the community golf course created an epic saga that ended with what seemed the end of an era.

This prestigious golf community was a well-known jewel located in Evans, GA. Situated very close to the Columbia County line and just minutes away from the infamous Augusta National, made this subdivision an enterprising buy with great rental potential during Masters Week.

Beautiful homes, surrounded by a 187-acre public golf course, six miles from what is arguably known as the greatest golf tournament each year, managed to keep these home values high for generations. Couple that with the centralized geographic location and proximity to all our best-paying job sources, Jones Creek made an astounding choice for homeowners in the CSRA.

Fast forward to sometime late in September of 2018, the flooding from stormwater literally drowned the course and seemingly its future. Speculation of what was to come made Jones Creek a risky purchase, leading to home values dropping and the desire to buy here shifted for most to more stable, predictable golf course community options.

These residents have fought hard to protect their abandoned amenity from becoming more homes or a local special event space, which is finally paying off.

Currently, The Practice Club at Jones Creek powered by Toptracer can be found at the former Jones Creek Clubhouse and plans to restore the course by the end of 2024 are in the works. This is actually very exciting and a great place to work on your golf swing with reliable, real-time results on your golf game! I believe it is open to all who want to venture out and can be found at 4087 Hammonds Ferry, Evans, GA 30809.

Now, what does this mean for the many sub-sections of Jones Creek and why am I telling you about this?

I just want to see this community rebound from this five-year dilemma. I believe this would be a perfect place to buy and hold or update some well-built homes. Currently, there are seven homes for sale between the seven sub-sections of Jones Creek. The highest priced at $789,000 and has an overwhelming 5,100 square feet of living space. Built in 2005, it’s not desperate for a complete interior remodel and is full of character.

The least expensive home is found in the Willow Lake section, it is $389,000 and has a little over 2,400 square feet. This is a well-appointed home built in 1999 and has a beautiful outdoor patio area.

One home, listed for $664,000 backs up to what will potentially be a new green, and there are a couple of others that may offer a fairway view from across the street. Overall, values seem low, with a great chance of excessive appreciation in the next 18 months!

Today, I just want to encourage you, when the market seems unpredictable, there are still ways to invest wisely and avoid the risks that have been holding you back. The way to do that is to work with a realtor you know and trust, and remember that buying in the right location will always be a smart move. After all, the best time to buy real estate will always be five years ago!
