German copper recycler makes $340 million investment in Augusta plant but Riverkeeper asks for delay

A new metal recycling plant is slated to start construction this summer in Augusta Corporate Park in South Augusta, but the Savannah Riverkeeper has filed a petition with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to delay construction and conduct another review of potential pollutants from the plant. Aurubis, based in Germany, announced the project last fall. The scope of the project includes a state-of-the-art multi-metal recycling plant (see artist rendering above) built on 150 acres, which would provide about 125 local jobs. Scammers defrauding businesses in Georgia, S.C., with credit card scheme

Scammers are trying to defraud businesses, including those in Georgia and South Carolina, the FBI warned last week. Scams have already affected a few local businesses. According to the FBI, businesses in eight southern states are being targeted by scammers. Simon says: Augusta economic forecast gloomy as jobs continue post-pandemic lag

Edgefield County in South Carolina had the largest increase in average weekly wage in 2021 for the seven-county Augusta metro area. Wages there increased from $802 per week in 2020 to $874 in 2021, based on recently released data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
