A few hours before this weekend’s big game, Kurt Mueller will participate in a fundraiser for a cause that affects him on a personal level.
Mueller, a certified financial planner with Apollon Wealth Management in Augusta, and his competition barbecue team, Atomic City Smokers will be at Aquinas High School from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Smokin’ Butts for LLS on Super Bowl Sunday to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
He’s currently selling Boston butts, which will feed 12-15 people, for $50 each. His brother, Aleki Fualau, who’s also part of Atomic City Smokers, is battling CML, chronic myeloid leukemia. All proceeds will go to the non-profit organization, which helps to fund blood cancer research.
“The LLS is near and dear to my heart,” Mueller said. “It hits home, so I want to support their efforts.”
He’s helping a team of Aquinas students and LLS Student Visionaries of the Year called Fighting Irish Fighting Cancer 4.0. Student Visionaries is a seven-week philanthropic leadership development program.
Mueller will accept pre-orders until Thursday at 5 p.m.
“We’re highly encouraging people to pre-order,” he said.
