Downtown businesses to host free block party

A group of downtown business owners have teamed up to host a free block party this weekend. The 8th Street Holiday Artisan Market will be held on Friday, Dec. 10 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held on 8th Street between Ellis Street and Greene Street. “Almost all the businesses on 8th Street are participating,” says Gary Dennis, Executive Director of the Jessye Norman School of the Arts, which is helping to host the event

$200,000 grant in place to study food access issues

A local nonprofit that strives to improve community access to fresh foods has received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
